Blacksburg Presbyterian Church:
Who We Are
For almost 175 years, Blacksburg Presbyterian Church has sought to be a place of worship, welcome, and witness. We grow in faith together through vibrant worship, lively educational experiences, fellowship together, and serving in the world as God's children. From those who are seeking to those who have been believers for a long time, we travel together on our faith journeys, seeking to love and serve God together.
- Blacksburg Presbyterian Church is a member congregation of The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the largest Presbyterian denomination with 2.4 million members nation-wide.
- Our congregation in this university community values understanding, exploration, thoughtfulness, and the uniqueness of every individual.
- Our congregation seeks to extend warmth, care, and support to all members, friends, and visitors. In our devotion to God, we care for one another in times of joy and crisis as we continue our faith journeys together as a family.
- Our worship is central to who we are as God’s people. Along with the hearing and preaching of the word, prayer and music in worship renew our souls. Worship music ranges from traditional hymns to expertly performed classical arrangements to contemporary music performed by our teen and young adult members. Organ, piano, bells, guitar and other instruments add to our worship experience.
- Our Christian education programs for all ages emphasize the scriptures, explore Christian theology and relate the lessons of history and God's word to our modern world.
- Our congregation is well represented by all generations. We make a special effort to welcome students and provide a supportive place of worship and growth while they attend the university. We are also sponsors of Cooper House, the Presbyterian Campus Ministry at Virginia Tech.
- Because we love God, it is our joyful response to our calling to serve God in our world. Our church has long been known for its efforts to promote the peace of Jesus Christ and work for justice for all of God’s children. We sponsor and support community and global outreach programs with our finances, time, and God-given gifts. We provide ministries and service opportunities for people of all ages and interests.
