Jan L. McGilliard

Acting Campus Minister at Cooper House

Jan L. McGilliard serves as the Acting Campus Minister for Cooper House Presbyterian Campus Ministry at VA Tech. She is an elder at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church and is a certified lay preacher. Jan has lived in Blacksburg with husband Mike (Professor of Dairy Science at VT) since 1974. They have grown children and two grandchildren.

Jan holds an M.S. in family and child development from VA Tech and a B.S. in French from Iowa State University. For 15 years, Jan served as Associate for Older Adult Ministries for the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic, working with middle governing bodies on issues of aging and the church. Her other interests include congregational care and health ministry. She regularly trains for endurance events (marathon, triathlon, cycle) with Team in Training for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, raising funds and awareness.

Jan feels that through campus ministry, students are nurtured in their faith, encouraged to put faith into action, and equipped for a life of mission and ministry. She finds the students to be capable and responsive, generous, and fun-loving.
