The Reverend Dr. Catherine TaylorSenior Pastor/Head of Staff
BPC is the fourth congregation Catherine has served. She has been featured on Day 1, the national radio program formerly known as the Protestant Hour, and was one of two US pastors named in 2004 as a Campbell Scholar by Columbia Seminary for participation in an international seminar on “The Mission of the Church in an Age of Violence.” She also served as a contributing editor for the RENOVARÉ Spiritual Formation Bible, published in 2005 by Harper Collins.
Catherine and her husband, Robert Dean, Ph.D., M.D., have two children, Rorie, a college student, and Tucker, an associate games producer for Turner Broadcasting’s “AdultSwim.”
The Reverend Susan Verbrugge Susan Verbrugge began her work as Associate Pastor at Blacksburg Presbyterian in October of 2001. She received her Master of Divinity Degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia in 2001 and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wake Forest University in 1992. Before becoming an Ordained Minister of the Word and Sacrament, Susan was in the social work field, mostly working with abused and neglected children. Her position at BPC is a generalist position. She teaches, preaches, works to provide mission opportunities for the congregation, attends to pastoral care needs, and aids in the work of committees.
Susan and her husband, Ross, have two children, Jacob and Kinsey. They also have a dog, Deacon, named after Susan's and Ross' alma mater mascot, the Demon Deacon.
The Reverend Dr. Charles Taylor
Jeffrey performed as a singer and served on the Board of Directors of the Valley Chamber Chorale in Phoenix, Arizona. As a member of the Joseph Wytko Saxophone Quartet, he performed throughout the Southwest and Mexico. The quartet also performed as invited guests in the historic East Room of the White House.
Communicating the Gospel through music—and enabling and encouraging others to do the same—is Jeffrey’s main goal as Director of Music. He hopes to be joined in Blacksburg soon by daughter, Juliana (12), son, Jonathan (9), and his wife, Gail (I know better than to tell a woman’s age!).
A childhood member of Blacksburg Presbyterian, Susan Hunter has served in its classrooms in almost every capacity–as a caregiver, teacher, volunteer, and now staff. Named Director of Children and Youth Ministries in 2008, Susan provides direction and staff support for the Sunday School, Nursery, and the Way Cool Wednesday program for K-5th Graders; coordinates the Mid-High and Senior-High youth groups; staffs Vacation Bible School; and recruits and trains lay leaders for church school and youth programs. With a degree in clothing and textiles and additional training in architecture, she is also an active member of the Arts subcommittee.
Samantha Quesenberry Samantha (Sam) began directing the children's choirs at BPC in January 2011. She has been directing choirs and helping lead worship since she was in high school.
Sam wrote and received a worship renewal grant from the Calvin Institute of Worship which led to an ecumenical partnership (One In The Spirit) with, at times, as many as twelve Blacksburg churches. In that role she organized the joint service at Cassell Coliseum in the November following the Virginia Tech tragedy. She also served as a panelist for Calvin on two different occasions for their Grants Symposium and Worship Symposium.
For the past 21 years she has taught music for Montgomery County Public Schools. What’s On Stage is an after-school group founded and directed by Sam.
Sam’s husband, Kevin, better known as Mr. Q, teaches 8th grade civics at BMS. Her son, Taylor, is a junior at BHS and son, Asher, is in 7th grade at BMS.
Sherry Ingham Sherry Ingham began work at BPC in March 2006. Her past work experience is in various public school systems. She comes to the area from Michigan and is a wonderful addition to our church staff.
Linda McGraw Linda McGraw joined BPC’s staff as a part-time administrative assistant in October 2010. Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, she worked at Virginia Tech as an administrative assistant for twenty-three years and helped to develop the co-housing village in Blacksburg. As an avid gardener and quilter, she enjoys peeking in to see the beautiful projects underway by the BPC quilting group.
