Mission and Vision

Blacksburg Presbyterian Church is called by God, enabled and sustained by the Holy Spirit, and modeled by Jesus Christ, to be a loving, caring community of God’s diverse disciples.

Our MissionTo proclaim God’s Word in our contemporary world

To grow with commitment, faith, and understanding

To welcome all to our community and fellowship

To extend comfort and grace to those in need

To work actively for justice and peace in the world

To be generous, responsible stewards of God’s gifts

Our Vision

As people of the Living God, and disciples of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit, we strive

  • To magnify the glory of God and proclaim the gospel through worship that challenges the mind, nourishes the spirit, honors our Reformed tradition, inspires through liturgy, music and arts, and speaks to the contemporary needs of individuals, families, our community and the world.
  • To grow in grace, forgiveness, reconciliation, and mutual support, including and involving children, youth, and people of differing ages and points of view, valuing and affirming our existing membership and welcoming and involving new members. It is important to us as a congregation to affirm all persons as having been created in the image of God. We, therefore, welcome and invite all who would join us in seeking to live as the Body of Christ in the world including those of diverse race, ethnic background, nationality, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation and those who are physically or mentally challenged.
  • To nurture the whole person – mind, heart, and soul – providing continuing opportunities for the development of faith, character, and intellect of all our members throughout their lives, and encouraging that continual growth in our Reformed heritage which keeps us open to the new world God is always creating.
  • To be a church in the world, believing that wholeness comes from reaching beyond ourselves and serving the common good, by boldly addressing human need through social action, working to make God’s mercy, justice, peace, and love a living reality in our own lives, in this university community, and in the world.
  • To give gratefully and generously of ourselves, our abilities, and our financial resources in offering our best to God, so that we might love God with our whole being and love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
